Terms and Conditions

The University of Luxembourg Competence Centre (hereinafter referred to as “Competence Centre”) is the Data Controller for the processing of personal data communicated by the participant for the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) organised by the Competence Centre and ECMWF. The personal data are processed in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, entitled the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR"), with applicable laws and -/- or regulations as well as with the terms of these terms and conditions. The Competence Centre has appointed to the Independent Supervisory Authorities, the National Commission for Data Protection (CNPD) in Luxembourg, a Data Protection Officer, who can be contacted:

1. Process Data

The participant having provided the data directly to the Competence Centre for the purpose of this MOOC. These data may include but are not limitated to the last name and first name of the participant, private and/or professional address, photos, videos, evaluation sheets as well as any learning material. These data may also include data taken over from the curriculum vitae provided by the participant, private and/or professional telephone numbers, all information related to the spoken languages, the work experience and the role assumed by the participant, availabilities in terms of time and location. The participant has to provide his/her data in order to allow effective and respectful management of the legal requirements of the Competence Centre. If not, the participant will not be able to participate in the MOOC. These data are stored in accordance with security and confidentiality standards by the Competence Centre.

2. The purpose and legal basis

The processing of the participant's personal data is carried out for the purposes of the organisation, administration and management of the MOOC in which the participant is involved. Photos, videos or vocal recording of the participant can be used as part of the MOOC. These can be broadcasted by the Competence Centre on training platforms, its website or social networks. The processing of the participant's personal data is based on Article 6.1.a (consent of the participant) Article 6.1.e (public interest mission of Data Controller) and Article 6.1.f (legitimate interest of the Data Controller) of the RGPD. The participant can withdraw his/her consent at any time. This withdrawal does not void the processing which have already been implemented.

3. The Recipients

The Competence Centre may be required, by applicable laws in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, to transmit some of the participant's data to certain public authorities, to the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, the speakers and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

4. Data retention period

The Competence Centre will store the participant's personal data for a period of 5 years after the end of the participant's MOOC.

  • a. to ask the Competence Centre for accessing his/her personal data,
  • b. to request their rectification or erasure,
  • c. to ask for restriction of processing,
  • d. to revoke or object their processing for legitimate reasons,
  • e. to exercise the portability of his/her data, however this is subjected to the validation of certain criteria,
  • f. to file a complaint to the Supervisory Authority, if the claim has remained unanswered or unsolved by the Competence Centre as provided for in the Complaint Management Procedure.

Image rights

As part of this terms and conditions your participation to the Machine Learning in Weather & Climate MOOC can be filmed, recorded and broadcasted. Consequently, the participant grants the Competence Centre the right to record his/her voice and image for use and dissemination within Machine Learning in Weather & Climate MOOCs, as well as on the Competence Centre website, its partner’s website and on social networks such as YouTube. The participant authorizes the Competence Centre to grant as necessary the right to exploited by the partner, all or part of the recordings (as for the rights of intellectual property as attributes and rights of the personality - image, silhouette, voice, name and the notoriety attached to it - which would be applicable to them), in Luxembourg and in the whole world, as from the date of inscription to the MOOC. The licensed rights are not limited to the recording’s first broadcast. The Competence Centre and the partner may therefore use it as many times as it wishes for the duration.
